Special Services

The Elmwood Park Public School District’s Special Services Department is dedicated to developing the academic, social and emotional potential of all students.

The Special Services Department includes special education teachers and aides, Child Study Team (CST) members, speech and language pathologists, and physical and occupational therapists. This team provides educational programs for students with disabilities in partnership with regular education staff, administration and parents.

The families are vital in the educational process.  Their input and insights about their children help us to understand and plan for the future of their child’s education.

The CST consists of a school psychologist, a school social worker, a learning disability teacher consultant (LDT-C) and, in the case of a preschool evaluation, a speech and language pathologist.  We also employ Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), as members of the CST, who assist when students are in need of behavioral interventions.  BCBA's are also integral to the success of our Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs throughout the district.

The New Jersey Administrative Code (NJAC 6A:14) describes in detail all the services required and provided by the district through special services. NJAC 6A:14 can be obtained at the State of New Jersey Department of Education.
